GO25-Gorizia, Aquileia and Collio

Arrival in GORIZIA and NOVA GORICA, European Capital of Culture 2025, a laboratory for Europe’s future, created with the goal of forging a new cross-border identity.

Meeting with the guide and beginning of the tour in Gorizia, a city with an Austro-Hungarian past, known for its palaces and gardens: the castle and its surrounding village, the elegant Coronini Cronberg Noble Palace, Piazza Vittoria with the Neptune Fountain, Via Rastello, and the beautiful Church of Saint Ignatius.

Continuing through Piazza Transalpina, we arrive in Nova Gorica, a lively and dynamic city with innovative architecture, art galleries, boulevards, and theaters that blend history and modernity.

In the morning, meet with the nature guide for a walking tour through the heart of the Collio wine region, following the “High Vineyards Trekking” trail. This scenic route winds through a harmonious landscape of vineyard-covered hills, orderly rows of vines, forests, and charming small villages.

Arrive at Villa Russiz Winery, in the heart of Friulian Collio, founded in 1868 by Count Theodor de la Tour. Enjoy a guided tour of the winery, followed by a tasting of three wines paired with a selection of local specialties.

In the afternoon, depart for Aquileia, an ancient Roman city founded in 181 B.C. Once the capital of the Augustan region and later a key center for the spread of Christianity, it is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the forum, port, decumanus, and the 4th-century Patriarchal Basilica, famous for its stunning mosaic floors and the crypt of frescoes.

Continue to Grado, crossing a breathtaking lagoon landscape. Take a short guided tour of the historic center, followed by a seafood dinner in a local restaurant.

Return to the hotel in the evening.
